The IveyLeague.com training site that's the online home to Phil Ivey is going to be sponsoring a stop on the Canadian Poker Tour.

In the online poker world, there are two major movements that have made some major changes in how the game is seen and how it's played. The first is the invention of the poker tour. This is a series of live events all over an area, or all over the entire world, that bring together tons of top professionals and amateurs alike to compete against each other. The Canadian Poker Tour is one such set of events, and the Summer Showdown Series in Calgary is its most recent stop.

The second major influence has been poker training sites on the Internet. Phil Ivey is considered by many to be the best overall poker player of the modern era, and his IveyLeague.com training site is known for its unique approach to instruction. IveyLeague.com will be sponsoring the Summer Showdown Series in Calgary as it runs through August 3 at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino. This is exciting news as it represents an intersection of two influential factors in the poker world.

The Canadian Poker Tour is particularly interesting because it offers certain advantages to players from the United States and all over Canada who want to come together to play. This tour has been running for 12 years and has put together more than 10,000 different tournaments. It's important to note that a single stop on the tour could have several different tournaments as a part of one event, and the stop in Calgary is no exception. So if you're the type of player who loves to get in on the action, but maybe your bankroll can't sustain a four-figure or five-figure buy-in, then there are plenty of chances to experience the tour with smaller buy-in events.

The Summer Showdown Series is a particularly important stop on the CPT because it lasts for 11 days and has 10 different events. The smallest buy-in is $200, and the largest is a $3,300 main event. You have to be 18 to enter, and they're expecting to pay out well over $1 million in prizes in all 10 of their events combined.
